Picture this…
The alarm starts beeping loudly (about an hour before you want it to!) and you drag yourself out of bed. Straight away you make a beeline for the coffee machine, and slam down a mug or two to prepare you for the day ahead. Then you rush around trying to find things – your outfit, that notebook you need, the token for the dry cleaning, your youngest child (!) – before madly bundling yourself, your stuff and anyone else you’re responsible for into the car (25 minutes after you were supposed to leave, mind you) and venturing out into the big bad world.

If you’re nodding your head in recognition right now, today’s post is for you! The first few hours of your day are so important for setting your mood and intention for the hours ahead, and rushing and racing through your morning is NOT doing you any favours. Here are 5 peaceful morning rituals you might like to try adding in to your daily routine, so that you can set yourself up for a gorgeous productive day without the overwhelming stress and tension.
Go to bed on time
Not quite a morning ritual, but certainly gives you a peaceful start. My awesome day always starts the night before.
Intention
On waking, set an intention describing how you want to feel. A couple of common ones I use are peace, joy and surrender.
Affirmation
I read my affirmations both on rising to set my mindset for the day and prior to sleeping so the wisdom can soak overnight.
Creativity
My mornings are just as busy as anyone else’s, but I allow for a few minutes of creativity, every day. For me, most mornings that is jotting a couple of lines in a journal, or most recently, getting out my pencils and having a moment to colour in. Yes, some genius invented adult colouring books. Don’t knock it until you have tried it.
Stillness
Whether you can sit for an hour or meditate, or it’s a mini moment of stillness, this is a must. For me, it’s usually 5-10 minutes each morning. Some mornings it’s meditation, others I simply sit in stillness.
