You’re tired. In a way that sleep, sugar and coffee can’t seem to touch.
You’re stressed. And the usual suspects (wine, TV, shopping, whatever) don’t seem to be helping.
You’re overwhelmed, and can’t seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
And more than anything else, you just wish the world would STOP for a second so you could catch your breath and take a moment (or a whole month!) to catch up and recover.
Sound familiar? If so, you may be suffering from burnout. It’s way more common than people think, and I’m seeing it more and more with my clients. It can be really tough to deal with and break out of, and frankly, way too many people ignore the warning signs – they just chug more coffee, drink more wine, and try to numb themselves against the tiredness and pain that’s threatening to take over.
Today, I want to address this issue head on, and share with you my best tips and strategies for dealing with burnout in a spiritual, holistic, heart-fuelled way. Here we go…
Reduce your cups of coffee
The constant coffee refills that are getting you through the day you is setting you up for a rollercoaster of energy highs and lows, contributing to adrenal exhaustion. It’s time to cut back or cut out the coffee. Set yourself a 30 day challenge and slowly reduce your intake to reduce the withdrawal symptoms. Try replacing your coffee hit with herbal tea.
More rest
Seems really obvious, but it’s often the last thing we think of. Whether you could do with scheduling a power nap, or just need to get to bed earlier to amp up the hours, know that rest is one of the most underrated, yet most important things you can do for your body, mind and spirit.
Seek assistance
Sometimes when you’re feeling so crappy and burnt out, it can be hard to find the energy to do anything. Working with a wellness practitioner can provide the extra support you need to get you feeling refreshed, energised and back on your feet much quicker.
Gentle movement
Ease up on the cardio and put aside the HIIT class aside for the moment and focus on calming and gentle movement such as Yoga, Tai Chi, walking or a simple daily stretch at home.
Turn off the technology
We spend so much of our day ‘plugged’ into our phone, laptop and email. Create some boundaries to ensure you are getting time to unplug each day, ideally switching off at least 60 minutes before bed.
