Berry Street offer a large range of support and education services to children and families. Each year, they run the Berry Christmas appeal seeking Christmas gifts for the 2,000 children they have in care at any one time.
Thanks to the beautiful community at heidieverett.com I have been able to make a small but always significant difference for some of these disadvantaged children. Over a dozen Christmas gifts were purchased and passed onto the children in care of Berry Street.
The sad reality of disadvantaged children in Australia reveals:
-There are over 340,000 reports of child abuse and neglect every year.
-Every 13 minutes a child suffers neglect or child abuse in Australia.
-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are over-represented in the figures being 8 more times likely to suffer abuse or neglect.
-Over 40,000 children live in out of home care.
-The median age for a child first living out of home and into care is 6 years old.
-Every 15 days a child dies as a result of an assault.
